In May of 2015, UWNYC hosted its 22nd annual Gridiron Gala, an event that highlights the 42-year partnership between United Way and the National Football League (NFL). The event also honors the individuals from the NFL who have dedicated themselves to community service.
Over the years, the Gala has secured more than $25 million to support initiatives for New York City’s youth. The Gala specifically benefits the NFL’s Play60 initiative and UWNYC’s education programs, which work together to develop healthy students who are prepared for learning and success.
In 2015, the Gridiron Gala raised in excess of $1.9 million and honored two professional athletes with the Hometown Hero Award in recognition of their community service efforts. This year’s winners were Quinton Coples of the New York Jets and Prince Amukamara from the New York Giants.
